Netflix’s original KATLA created by Baltasar Kormakour is an Islandic sci-fi series that shows the aftermath of catastrophic volcano at Katla where dead people start to show up alive and intact.
The show is gloomy & atomspheric and some how gives the vibes of DARK.
Vik a town in Island is constantly experiencing massive volcanoes even after year of first eruption. Most of the people from the town have already left Vik and settled in nearby town Reykjavik. However, some police officers, scientists and family of Grima (Guðrún Ýr Eyfjörð) are living in the horrible palce for different reasons.
Katla series starts with a naked woman appearing in the town who is covered with volcanic ash. The mystery starts when she is transferred to the hospital in Vik. The hospital says she is suffering from hypothermia and Grima & Police officer Gisli find out that the woman is a Swedish national called Gunhild. Gunhild says that she worked in a local hotel Vik and went on a tour to the glacier in Vik where she might have met an accident. When Gisli goes to the local hotel for investigation he finds out that Gunhild worked in that hotel 20 years ago; On further investigation it is found that there’s another woman who calls herself Gunhild is in Sweden with her son.
The story in the series develops further when similar people start to show up who were supposed to be dead or missing.
Talking about the other parts of Katla; The cinematography and background score is mind blowing. The cast and acting is praiseworthy.
