In recent news, we have heard about the demise of the famous Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It is said that he committed suicide. It is also reported that Sushant Singh Rajput had depression for a long period of time. A lot of people may seem puzzled as he was having a successful career and money, then how was he depressed?
At this moment, I would like to share a story I read in class 4 in subject ‘Headway’ which I still remember. At that time I was not able to understand but somehow I do now.
Story About Joseph Grimaldi
A well-dressed man in London walks to a popular doctor at that time, who could treat depression.
The doctor asked: “How can I help you?”
The man replied: ” I feel sad all the time and have no urge to laugh or smile. Can you make me laugh?”
The doctor was confused at first. However, he went to tell some of the funniest jokes he could, but in vain. The man did not even smile a bit.
After so many attempts to try to make the man laugh failed, the doctor said to the man “I have a final suggestion so that you can laugh.”
The man replied “Please, tell me, doctor” Go and watch Joseph Grimaldi perform in the circus. He performs all the tricks and can make anyone laugh.”
“But, doctor, I am Joseph Grimaldi” replied the man.
Joseph Grimaldi was born in a family of theatre artists. He had joined theatre at an early age and was very popular. However, the person who could entertain others and make them laugh was not able to laugh.
This story also tells us, like Sushant Singh’s that even if you are successful, you can be depressed.
