We are ending this year with no Cricket events around the globe amid coronavirus pandemic. But very soon Cricket will back to the fields again.
2076 might not have been the exactly to remember for Nepali fans with being back to back loss in World Cup Qualifiers and Asia Cup Qualifiers but it still was a year worthy besides all these losses. Let’s round- up the every moments happened in this year.
1. Baisakh
Starting a year with a loss was a quiet difficult time for Nepal’s Youth team as they fail to qualify for World Cup with a very small margin.Nepal U-19 team fails to qualify after the loss against UAE in final match of U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers 2019.
Nepal U16 made this month a memorable as they were the champions of ACC U16 Eastern Region 2019 beating Malaysia at finals. Bishal Bikram KC was named as player of the tournament.
2. Jestha
Nepal got the chance to host first ever Wheelchair Asia Cup this month. Although Nepal lost all of the matches in home ground but it was a door for international tournaments for Nepal. Pakistan won the title beating India in finals.
Umesh Patwal from India was nominated as head coach for Nepal National Cricket Team.
Prime Minister Cup 2076 was successfully organized in this month by National Sports Council. Nepal Police Club wins their back to back trophy being most successful Franchise of Prime Minister Cup.
3. Ashadh
Nepal U-19 was looking to redeem themselves after a narrow lost against UAE in finals of U-19 World Cup Asia Qualifiers 2019. As they were strong in papers for ACC U-19 Eastern Region 2019, they were exactly same in the field too. Clinching the title , Nepal U-19 was qualified for Asia Cup 2019 in Sri Lanka.
Nepal Senior Team started their year this month with a T20 series against Malaysia whitewashing them in the series. Paras Khadka played a fantastic inning of 86 runs in 2nd T20I against Malaysia.
4. Shrawan
This month was a quiet difficult time for National team as they fail to qualify for ICC T20 Global Qualifiers after the loss against Qatar and Singapore in ICC World Cup Qualifiers Asia Final. Singapore was nominated for Global Qualifiers from that tournament.
5. Bhadra
This month Nepal’s Youth team participated in Asia Cup 2019 with one win against UAE in the tournament at last. Nepal U-19 lost against Sri Lanka U-19 and Bangladesh U-19 with 5 and 6 wickets respectively earlier.
6. Asoj
This was the most fluctuating month for Nepal Cricket. Readmit of Cricket Association Of Nepal to Resignation of Paras Khadka from captaincy were the top stories of the month.
Nepal Senior Team played two series in this month as Singapore Tri-nation Series and Oman Pentangular series. Nepal finishes Singapore Tri-nation Series on second position with two loss against Zimbabwe , one win against Singapore and a match being abandoned by rain. In Paras Khadka Scores first century for Nepal in T20I and listed in record for scoring century while chasing as a captain against Singapore.
While , In Oman Pentangular Series Nepal finishes in 3rd position with a win against Hong Kong and Netherlands and a loss against Ireland and host Oman. Karan KC picked up most wickets (11) in that tournament.
7. Kartik
After the resignation from captaincy by Paras Khadka, Cricket Association Of Nepal appointed Gyanendra Malla as Skipper of Nepal Cricket Team.
The first edition of Women’s Champions League was conducted in Nepal with Chitwan Rhinos being champion beating KAT Queens Kathmandu in Finals.
Marylebone Cricket Club toured Nepal this month for an ODI with Youth Team and Senior Team, one First- Class match against National Team and a T20 against National Team.MCC downs both Youth Team and Senior Team in T20 and First class match while Nepal National Team finds a Win in ODI by 5 Wickets.
Nepal participated in Emerging Team Asia Cup 2019 held in Bangladesh replacing UAE due to unknown reason. Playing 3 match against India U23, Bangladesh U23 and Hong Kong , Nepal manage to clinch a victory against Hong Kong by 40 runs but fails against India U23 and Bangladesh U23 by 7 and 8 wickets respectively.
8. Mangsir
Cricket returned to South Asian Games this month after 9 years with hosting right to Nepal.Both Men’s and Women’s team participated in the tournament.Nepal won Bronze medals in both Men’s and Women’s tournament.
Anjali Chand from Nepal set a new record for best bowling figures in Women’s T20Is claiming 6 for 0 against Maldives in SAG.
9. Poush
Pokhara Premier League (PPL) was successfully organized in this month with Chitwan Rhinos clinching the title this year defeating Pokhara Paltans in Finals by 32 Runs. Rohan Mustafa from Chitwan Rhinos was named as player of the series.
10. Magh
Cricket was back to TU International Cricket Ground this month to host a Tri-series against Oman and USA of World Cricket League 2. Nepal finishes the tournament with loss against Oman in both games and win against USA in both games.
Earlier , Nepal was directly qualified for Global Qualifiers 2021 after ranking 12 in ICC Rankings.
11. Falgun
Nepal got a surprise defeat against Malaysia and Hong Kong in ACC Eastern Region Thailand by 22 runs and 43 runs respectively. With two loss and a win against host Thailand , Nepal finishes with 4th position in table failing to advance for 2020 Asia Cup Qualifier.
12. Chaitra
This month is the most heart breaking for all the cricket fans around the globe. With the global fear of coronavirus, all the major sporting events have been cancelled until further notice.
