Jeetu Joseph and Mohan Lal (George Kutty) have come together again for ‘Drishyam 2’ that follows the story, 6 years after the incident. The rumours are still going on and a past still haunts the two families. After different dimensions, the police is finally able to re-open the case of George Kutty, the protagonist of the story who outsmarted the police investigating the murder of Varun Prabhakar, and what follows is basically Drishyam 2, that’s all we can tell.
Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is now the proprietor of a cinema theatre. He is still a movie freak and wants to produce a movie on the basis of the story he’s written. Rani and he are still a faithful couple yet invariably sniping at each other as before. GeorgeKutty’s elder daughter Anju (Ansiba) is still recouping from the shock of the traumatic accidents, while the younger daughter Anu (Esther) is now a slightly contemptuous teenager. The whole family still lives a fearful life of the cases being reopened and police shoving into their house.
What’s the good?
The highlight of the film is its third act which is absolutely awesome. You would not stop praising Jeetu Joseph; for how brilliantly he has written it. It has got the surprise elements you expect from this one. Mohanlal and every other actor have done their job beautifully. Everyone shines in this film. The background music is great.
What’s the bad?
Drishyam 2 is a great film, Jethu Joshep really pulled this off. But, The film has flaws, the film could have been easily 20 minutes short, which would make it more effective because the film has some very overdramatic portions and in thrillers like this, the lesser the family drama, the more the impact would have been the case but the first half revolves around different portions which makes the audience lose the amount of investment it requires. The melodramatic songs, the dramatic scenes just don’t work. The first hour is full of it and you see some twists coming in the second act.
Overall, Drishyam 2 has some flaws but it’s an amazing sequel of Drishyam. Jeethu Joseph did it, He really pulled this off.
