Dibesh Pokharel who goes by stage name Arthur Gunn is an American based singer/composer born on Nepal who got into hype after he rocked the audition of American Idol 2020.

Dibesh Pokharel became the first runner up of 18th season of American Idol 2020. He lost to Just Sam of New York. At the finale of American Idol he performed his audition debut song “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival and another hit of Gavin DeGraw, “I don’t want to be.”

Dibesh Pokharel is 21 years old and is currently staying in Wichita, Kans, America from 7 years. He is originally from Kathmandu, Nepal. After his completion of high schools, he moved to America in 2013 as it is a country of opportunity- as he says.

He is currently living in Wichita, Kans with his sisters and family.

During his audition on American Idol in front of the judges he recalls, his mother bought him a guitar when he was young. He played that guitar all day long and used to sing every songs he heard on TV and radio. In Nepal, Dibesh Pokharel said, he would perform in a cafe and pubs and sometimes during a gathering with his friends. However, he later started recording his own music.

On a radio interview taken by Nagarik, Gunn says his music is inspired by the people and conditions around him.

In Wichita, Kans, America he fell in love with new music tastes. He calls it magnetic and hadn’t heard such songs back in Nepal. Dibesh Pokharel aka Arthur Gunn is inspired by John Martyn, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, and John Lee Hooker.

How Came The Name “Arthur Gunn?”

Dibesh Pokharel in an interview says that the word Arthur Gunn can be broken into three parts. Art, Thur (which means hole) and Gunn (which means battle). So as per him, the name suggests art being thrown into the hole in the battle. However, he laughs again and says “It’s probably some random English name you get to listen.”

He tried his luck on the 18th season of American Idol 2020 where he wowed the audience with his magnificent voice. He sang Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” and “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. After that performance, Katy Perry tweeted about him.

Later he flamed the judges with his amazing performance on Bob Marley’s cover and Gunn got into American Idol’s top 20.
